This is short but I hope useful post on how to check if your Oracle software for database has got the RAC option enabled, how to enable and disable the option

How to quickly check if you have RAC enabled

  1. Change directory to your database software $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
  2. Run the following comand:
    nm -r libknlopt.a | grep -c kcsm.o

  3. If itreturns 0, then RAC’s been disabled. If it returns more than 0, then it has been linked / enabled.

How to enable RAC option

  1. Change directory to your database software $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
  2. Run:
     $ make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_on
  3. Run:
     $ make -f ins_rdbms.mk ioracle

How to disable RAC option

  1. Change directory to your database software $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib
  2. Run:
    $ make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_off
  3. Run:

Disabling and enabling RAC options are available only for UNIX platforms. Windows installations do not support relinking binaries with RAC ON and OFF
